I got a dog last week. I should restate that. I got a puppy last week. His brain is still very much puppy, but his body looks like a full grown dog. So I basically have a 50 pound white tornado that is rearranging my house and yard. He looks like a dog, but acts like a puppy through and through.
Although most of the time he’s causing more havoc and stress in my life than I want, there has been moments, when I have seen signs of intelligence, and it gives me hope for the future. Like when I accidentally dropped my sawdust catcher bag off my sander, and he ran down the deck stairs, and crouched under my glider bench and grabbed it, ran back up the stairs and dropped it at my feet. I was amazed. He had done something of value and use. It gave me hope, that there is a possibility that he is going to be a useful intelligent dog after all. God has been teaching me patience though Marvel. Marvel has tried my ‘love walk’ in more ways than one. But he’s also a good reminder, that like Marvel, I’m still growing, I’m still learning, I’m not perfect nor have this life all together, but I trust my ‘Master’ and know He has the best for me, and is patient with me as I grow.
My Marvel came to me through a rescue. He was in an abusive home before. You can tell by his reaction to a lot of things he was beaten and abused. It’s going to take some time for him to totally trust me, and know he’s safe here with me. Just like when God delivers us out of the kingdom of darkness, it takes us a while to trust God that what He has is best and for our good. The devil is a cruel task master and abused us. But when we come into the family of God, our new master and Lord is kind and loving, but sometimes we still cower thinking we’ll again be abused. Learning to trust is hard, but it is possible.
“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,”Colossians 1:13 NIV
As for Marvel’s name, he was originally called Marley, cause he looks just like the dog in the movie Marley and Me. But since he came from an abusive home, I felt he needed a new identity, not one like the naughty dog in the movie. I came across the verse in Psalms that says, “Go ahead—sing your brand-new song to the Lord! He is famous for his miracles and marvels, for he is victorious through his mighty power and holy strength.” Psalms 98:1 TPT
I love to sing, and write music, and me still being alive after what I went through earlier this year is a miracle, I thought, Marley needed to be the Marvel that this verse is talking about. Together we’re singing a brand new song to the Lord, although Marvel’s part sounds more like a howl.
